Japanese Tattoos: Meanings, Shapes and Motifs by Yori Moriarty

informative medium-paced

4.0

Best random find I had in a while. When I flipped through it at the store I could tell that this was a great way to quickly learn a bit more about Japanese culture with a focus on symbols. I really liked the combination of art and the short descriptions of a range of symbols like real animals, mythical creatures and historical people. The angle on tattoos was an interesting context and a great addition to everything else going on. I really liked the introduction on the traditions of tattoos in Japan and the more personal epilogue. Overall, I think this is a great, compact book that could be interesting to a wide range of people.
