King of Envy by Ana Huang
3.0

There was a lot going on in this book. Vuk Markovic is an ex-assassin who is now a very wealthy man. He uses American Sign Language and only talks directly to two characters in the book. Vuk has been interested in Ayana Kidane, a model, ever since he met her. The only problem is that Ayana is engaged to Vuk's best friend. Ayana and her fiancé are pretending to be in love so that he can gain the money from his inheritance (his grandmother stipulates that he must marry to get the money). Her fiancé will give her $10 million in exchange for fake marrying him. Ayana needs the money to get out of her modeling contract with her toxic agent. Vuk doesn't want to betray his best friend by revealing that he is interested in Ayana. Vuk is also put in a danerous position because members of the Brotherhood (such a cliche name) are trying to kill him to make a name for themselves.

This can be read as a standalone. I was excited to read this book, but I was overall disappointed by it. I didn't really see much chemistry between Ayana and Vuk. I didn't care for the Brotherhood storylines. It felt too soap opera-ish.
