This book was bonkers, and not in the usual way. It was painfully mundane, and hilarious, while being over the top ridiculous and then ending in an absolutely painful to watch ending. Our protagonist ( of sorts? Antihero isn't right either) is obsessed with Treasure Island, and it's core values, boldness, resolution, independence and horn blowing. She's determined to live her life by these values... in her mind. In real life she's... not. I don't know if she's having a mental break or is just a peculiar type of un-self aware monster but good lord. I kept waiting for some kind of redemptive.... anything but it never happens. She descends from petty cruelty to petty cruelty, never caring what she's doing to other people or how she makes them feel. It's super entertaining, but also very uncomfortable to watch an unpleasant person become even more unpleasant while being so convinced of their own grandeur.
