Honestly I wanted to give it 3 stars just for the anxiety/second hand embarrassment I felt midway through, I was so sure the other shoe would drop.

But on a serious note wow. I was personally feeling like she was being a bit reckless with the power she weilds but also it makes total sense to me given her past/personality/background. She was someone poor thrust into a new life and had things suddenly handed to her, if she has the power why shouldn't she use it? But we also see her break more in this book. Seriously considering what use is it for me to do things this way? Why do I crave vengeance. The line about will spring come for a villaness just made me ache so much for her. Like I could go ad nauseum about her character. But while I have a lot of grace and understanding for her I do wish that the story pushed the narrative harder ever so slightly. The story does a good job of showing not telling with a lot of details. But I do wish we got more introspection and perspective from her. Like she had the outburst moment and it's clear she's struggling to control how she's feeling and a part of me is like of course, you have the tool to weild time and change your fate in a do over but how much can you really control? Like not even in a fate is destined way but more in a fate is winding infinite possibilities way that you cannot account for them all. And oo boy the ending of the book 2, if you havent gotten that this review contains spoilers here's your warning. I truly think this highlights and shows she is so desperate for things to work out in her favor. She doesn't truly love Oscar but she's emotional and crying because it's not really Oscar she's upset over I feel like she sees him as her kingpin to the whole operation. Her one chance of making things work or not even her one chance but like her chance of proving that she can actually change her fate from the course of her last life ya know? And just man, the second half/later half of the book really tugged on me and now I'm more invested. You would think I'd rate higher, I do think the story is expanding well but I do think my main gripe is there are slight moments when it feels like high stakes but aira doesn't act like there are high stakes ? Or rather it's like the story wants you to take something serious but doesn't fully commit to it? But honestly idk just a solid 4 felt right to me.
