That Boy by Jillian Dodd

Okay, I started this book because I was looking for a cheesy romance. What I got instead was a romance, but what felt like was written by a 15 year old in early 2000s.
The characters are lovable yes, but the way that the whole thing is written almost dampers them.

When the main character, JJ, suffers through an incredibly devastating situation - it takes a few pages as the reader for me to feel any sort of sympathy for her. It felt…rushed. You also don’t really see any emotional intelligence from JJ much throughout the book in general either.

I wanted to love it, I did. But I didn’t.
And I kept trying to love it because I didn’t want to DNF, still couldn’t love it.
I might just not be the kind of girl this book is written for, despite the sorority part tugging at my heart as an alumna (ah the candle circle, arguably the best part of the book).

If you’re into vapid characters, with no worries in the world of money, no seemingly overwhelming issues, and the emotional capacity of a milk dud - then check it out.
