Spooky Szn 2021 Re-read
Just as fantastic and creepy, as always! I always pick up on new foreshadowing with each re-read.
Vince Leone’s narration still makes me melt 🥵

Re-read Spooky Szn 2020.
Always fantastic and creepy as hell. The atmospheric setting and psychology embedded into this story make it fantastic.
And I’m still obsessed with Vince Leone (& now have to re-read book two bc I can’t get enough of the way the narrator voices his Chicago accent; chef’s kiss.

Pleasantly surprised!
CW: physical abuse, substance abuse, child abuse, misogyny, (detailed) murder, ignored instances of mental illness
What a perfect ending to end spooky szn!!!!!!! I thoroughly enjoyed this. I was kept at the edge of my seat the whole time listening to this audiobook (read via Libby) - it was so addicting !!!!
This was a gruesome psych thriller about a serial killer terrorizing a small town in California. Set in 1985, when profiling was just starting to come to light, we follow the story of teacher Anne Navarre and her students as they discover the body of a murdered woman. Vince Leone, a profiler has been called in by the local police to help with the search for the killer and thus begins a race against time to find the killer before they strike again.
Because this was set in the ‘80s, the instances of people living with mental health issues (unknown to them) is widely prevalent. A lot of the characters seemed to show symptoms of depression, abusive behaviour, bipolar disorder, narcissistic personality disorder and substance abuse. Particularly disturbing was the seemingly psychopathic behaviour exhibited by one of the children, which is clearly due to exposure of abuse in his family. While the book isn’t overly gory, it doesn’t shy away from any details.
I really enjoyed the romance between Vince and Anne. I loved their dynamic and they had incredible chemistry.
If you’re looking for an intense, suspenseful psych thriller that’ll keep you guessing the entire time - you’ve come to the right place.
Side note: I’d like to say the way the narrator voiced Vince and his Chicago accent was oof *chef’s kiss*
