The Spy Who Came In from the Cold
by John le Carré
Phenomenal spy novel that doesn't really hold your hand through what's going on. Once the mission starts, it starts, and you are consuming it much in the same way the antagonists are consuming Alec's story, creating this really interesting experience where small word choices carry big waves. Its not a particularly exciting novel (I don't read a lot of spy stuff, I just assumed they were all a little bit James Bond) but in return it gives a really realistic feeling view into the world of espionage with an ending that really makes you wonder if that's a good or bad thing.
