To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers

5.0

This novella is everything I love about sci-fi in 135 pages. Conversations about science, mortality and what it means to be human are themes that take up so much space in my brain, and when paired with outer space, it tickles something in me that can't be reached by anything else. I never considered myself 'smart enough' to study science in terms of biology, chemistry or physics, so I settled on becoming a psychology major which is about as close as I can hope to get to science. Reading books like this make me so happy that even if I can't study these things at a tertiary level, I can at least engage with them in an affordable and accessible way. Becky Chambers is a genius, and I hope they know that their writing has the ability to move readers to tears.
