The Love Songs of W.E.B. Du Bois
by Honorée Fanonne Jeffers
An important, beautiful and captivating story that kept me engrossed for all of its many pages. A piece of historical fiction that carefully unpacks the injustice of slavery, displacement and oppression. At the same time, the novel pushes a feminist message through its wonderful and strong female characters, who stand in stark contrast with both evil and many disrespectful and anti-feminist male characters. I shed a lot of tears reading this book, yet I could not put it down. This was not just the content, of course, but also due to the amazing writing, which alternates between familiar dialogue and lyrical descriptions. I cannot recommend it enough.
