The Cheat Sheet by Sarah Adams
Did not finish book. Stopped at 41%.
The main characters are immature, annoying, and selfish. The plot is boring. The romance, especially the dialogue, is cringe and juvenile. And if you don't like the miscommunication trope, you will not like this book. It is riddled with it over and over. There's also a lot of telling and not showing. It got old really fast and I only got to 40% because I wanted it to get better. And it didn't.
Read below for specifics I really could not deal with.
They both have feelings for each other but don't want to admit it because they don't want to ruin their friendship. Which is fair. BUT there was too much collateral damage. I understand that Nathan is about casual relationships and that's fine, BUT he chooses Bree over them every time in the most juvenile way. Like when Bree is over, he doesn't even acknowledge the woman that stayed overnight in his apartment! And Bree enables this! She texts her sister RIGHT AWAY after this woman leaves because she "won".
Also Bree's character is contradictory. She calls Nathan's woman friend "Screechy Kristy" but Bree is described to be screeching a lot too when interacting with Nathan... She's also distressed when she finds out that Nathan has been helping her financially behind her back; before she finds this out, in her inner dialogue, she says it's because she wants to do and earn things on her own. Right after she finds out, she yells at Nathan saying that he shouldn't do things like that because it'll give her the impression that he likes her more than a friend. Then later on... she said she doesn't want his money because ever since high school his friends and family look to him for financial help and she doesn't wanna be like that. Which doesn't make sense because his family is wealthy and most of his friends are in the NFL. Unless there was some off page friends we don't know about..
Also Bree calls Nathan, twerp. Ew no...
"She has a Julia Roberts smile-- one so unique and stunning that once you've seen it, no other smile even comes close" Except Julia Roberts...?
