Rebel by Rahaf Mohammed

Amazing, AMAZING book. Miss Mohammed, if you're reading this, you are singlehandedly the coolest woman on planet earth. I nearly spat out my drink at the line about not only having ONE girlfriend in Saudi Arabia, but MULTIPLE. I aspire to have that level of nerve, and truly admire the author not just for her brave escape, but for the level of defiance she displayed while doing it. Mother tries to guilt trip her? She deletes her number. Brother demanding to see her phone? Refuses to give it and chews him out. Women in America could learn a thing or two from Mohammed's sheer grit.
Absolutely adored the storytelling in this. The writing style is gripping, and while I'm not usually a fan of memoires, I was completely entranced by the strong personality and spirit of the author. It's haunting to think of how many women like this, with such a life in them, are suppressed and either killed literally or in spirit by patriarchy. I hope the author has a long, peaceful life, and continues consciousness raising for women. She's an inspiration to us all, and I'm so, so happy for her. Will be following her on this platform to see if she releases future books.
