The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver
5.0
I usually steer clear of most romance novels. They tend to be predictable and cheesy when done poorly. However... when they are done well... they sweep you off your feet and make you believe in the magic that is human connection. The way the author writes about grief is so raw and heartbreaking. I have never been more in love with a romance novel and I don’t think I ever will. This book has what so many romance novels lack: friend-love, family-love, and self love. While this ties up to be a romantic-love story, Lydia takes us on the journey of finding out that love is something to be shared among space, time and people. She walks through her journey of grief and comes out the other side with the realization that her loss, while devastating, does not mean that her happiness was buried with it. What a wonderful thing this books has reminded me of: that the world keeps spinning and all of us have it within ourselves to not only persevere, but to enjoy it while we do.
