The Calling by Kelley Armstrong

4.0

The sequel wasn't quite what I expected, but it was a great read nonetheless! Maya became more attuned to her powers, as did more of her friends, some of who had unexpected abilities. The only part that kinds threw me regarded Rafe. It seemed completely out of the blue and I'm not sure why it happened in the first place. Still, the story was one that focused on survival and trust, and hard choices. The characters continued to grow, with my love for Maya, Daniel, Rafe, and even Corey continuing to grow. The only person I couldn't stand was Sam. Everyone else acted like a normal, reasonable person, offering honesty and explanations and never keeping secrets or full blown arguing to create drama. Unless you were Sam. She's a drama machine. All in all, this was a quick sequel that felt like a bridge between stories, and I hope there will be a lot more explanations and resolutions in the finale.
