The Duke's Rules Of Engagement by Jennifer Haymore

4.0

It's a steamy and fun historical fiction with lovable characters. Historical romance novels are always so interesting, but more so when authors break rules. I love unconventional stories set in the past. That's why I enjoyed this book.
Joana Porter is a matchmaker and a very successful one at that. It might be how she earns her living, but the truth is that she is a romantic at heart. She doesn't just find a match for her clients, she actually makes sure that they fall in love. So far, all of her clients are blissfully happy and that makes her happy too. Then, she is presented with a challenge: a client who neither believes in nor wants a love match. He just wants a "perfect duchess." Will Jo be able to please this difficult client or is this a recipe for disaster? Only time will tell.
The Duke of Crestmont must marry, not because he wants to, but simply because it's his duty. So, when someone recommends a matchmaker, he thinks why not? That is until he meets the said matchmaker, now he is even more doubtful. Still, of all the things he envisioned, love definitely wasn't one of them. What will happen to his careful plans of marrying a perfect woman? Or is he about to get betrayed yet again?
Overall, an interesting story. I enjoyed reading it, but if I'm honest, I found some parts dragging and skipped a little. Hence, the four stars rating. My problem is that I like to read books in as few sittings as possible. That's why it's not easy to keep me entertained. Anyhow, I'm glad I picked up this book and would recommend it to romance & historical fiction lovers.
