If He Had Been with Me by Laura Nowlin

This is such messed up book. Like oh my god. I read the reviews and knew that people thought it was a sad, and you get to almost the very end and it hits you. I was listening to the audiobook and literally gasped. I didnt re-read the book description before starting the book. It's heartbreaking. While some parts were dramatized, as a whole it's very human. It's relatable and you can see yourself (or younger self) in the characters. I think that's what makes the ending hurt more. You were rooting for them and you want this happily ever after. But that doesn't always happen in life. I think that feeling still could have accomplished without the dramatic plot choice at the end, but I'll choose to overlook it.
