There is definitely something wrong with the house of Usher.
And maybe there is something wrong with me, because never did I think I would read a book about a semi-sentient fungal disease that possesses the human body to grow intelligence and infect the world. Almost like Venom in the Spiderman Universe. But with less sex appeal and more moldy looking.
But this novel with an odd premise was very good, and dare I say funny. Kingfisher’s writing style was very palatable, unique, and immersive (I am a sucker for parenthetical rants). The use of unique pronouns and new liquor I would love to taste really added a layer of authenticity to this story.
I have to admit, I was panicked about how they would resolve the issue of the lake, and the fact that there is a second book to this duo did not help. But Sicilian sulfur always says the day.
This is my first novel by this offer and I am hesitant but eager to dive into the second book.
