Moonlight by Rachel Hawthorne

4.0

Kayla's parents died tragically when she was 4 or 5 (can't remember!), and since then she has been raised by her adoptive parents. At 15 her adoptive parents bring her to the camp/wilderness where her parents were murdered hoping to help her overcome her fear, and nightmares. During that trip Kayla meets Lindsey(a Sherpa, which is like a wilderness guide), they become good friends and continue to communicate throughout the following year. Lindsey convinces Kayla to come back for the summer and work as a Sherpa with the others she met last summer. Kaylas' reaction to seeing Lucas is confusing, she likes him, thinks he is hot etc. but doesn't think she stands a chance. Mason on the otherhand is one of the college students they are guiding/ leading whatever. He is sweet, romantic and clearly interested. He is also the safest choice, which is why she decides to spend time with him. The rest you will have to read! Moonlight definately holds your attention. Towards the end I thought well everything is resolved, what could the next 30 pages be about? Then something happens. Moonlight could be targeted for middle school ages, but I enjoyed it. I like the urban fantasy without all of the sex. Without sex the author really has to write. Overall good book, the characters are likeable, and it is set up nicely for the next one.
