I knew I would like this, but I didn't know how nearly perfect it would be at reaching in to every corner of my heart. I feel like every woman should read this book because it soothes so many of our collective aches, and honestly every dude should probably read it too, just to know what's up. This book is split in to four parts: the hurting, which addresses abuse, childhood trauma, familial relationships and dynamics, and the misogynistic grooming girls go through; the loving, which covers falling in love, insecurity in a relationship, loving after abuse, and deliciously describes sexuality; the breaking, which is my least favourite section but which I'm sure resonates with broken hearted women who pour their all in to love; and the healing, my favourite, a gorgeous celebration of womanhood, women of colour, self love, femininity, and sisterhood. I will reread this until the pages curl and the spine is cracked and the cover is worn, I will talk about it until every person I come in contact with picks it up to shut me up, I will lend my copy to my mom and all of my girlfriends, and any man in my life who is willing to learn a little bit about the pains and joys to which they can't fully relate. Also, the sketches are beautiful.
