The Waste Lands by Stephen King
2.0
This book has some great moments and I enjoyed it enough to keep on going with the series at some point but I also did not like it.
The closest he comes to characterisation is the misspelling of words during dialogue to suggest an accent (but even that isn’t consistent). His idea of a story seems to be throwing together a bunch of mismatched ideas that don’t mesh well together and spending dozens of pages leading up to ideas that completely lack a satisfying pay off.
It’s the kind of writing that would have enthralled me as a child but this is no children’s book.
