The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

Did not finish book.
Not my cup of tea.
I was recommended this book over and over. I didn't pick it up, as I usually am not a fan of modern literature - I usually am bored to death by books that win the big literature prizes. But since it popped up so many times in conversation, and everybody was like "You really need to try it! I swear you will like it!" I gave in and gave it a try after all.

I wouldn't say it is bad per se.
It just is not at all my cup of tea! I gave it way longer than I usually do with books that I don't enjoy, but I still didn't even get to the middle. I put it down just 1/3 through. I just didn't get any connection at all to the book.

And what made me give it just the one star (as there are many books I don't personally like, but still give two or three stars as I can see who they would be perfect for) is that just a few months after reading it, I can't even remember what it was about more than a faint shadow in my mind... I usually can put half finished books on hold for years and still be able to pick them right up where I stopped. But here nothing of the story was sticking to my brain.

It most likely really is due to being not at all in my target area, and not the book itself. So if you like "good modern literature" this might be perfect fot you. But if you are like me and rather stick to classics, fantasy, ya, and such I'd recommend looking somewhere else :)
