Yona of the Dawn, Vol. 1 by Mizuho Kusanagi
3.5
adventurous emotional medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I am still mad that the anime was left unfinished so I started reading the manga. I am sure that knowing future events influenced my rating of this first volume.  This story might look a bit generic at first and the reasons why I love it so much aren't all presented in here.

It is shown a little right from the start how having a pacifist king might not be a great idea even though Yona hasn't made contact with the people outside the palace yet to see exactly their opinion about the deceased king.

In this volume only three of the main characters are introduced yet: Yona, Hak and Soo-Won. I love the relationship between these three so I really didn't mind to see the moments from their childhood. The love Yona had for Soo-Won only made the betrayal more painful. I also enjoyed Hak much more now than I did when I watched the anime.

Yona is still naive and spoiled throughout this volume and I can't wait to see her development and meet the rest of the cast again. I forgot some details since I watched the adaptation years ago.
