The Lies That Bind
by Emily Giffin
My favorite part of this book was when it finally ended and I could break down the storyline to my SO and have a good laugh. It felt like Emily
Giffin wanted to see how deep into the realm of the ridiculous she could go- and unfortunately for us, her editor was out of office and didn’t tell her to stop. Breakups! True love! September 11th! Terminal illness! Corporate espionage! A clichéd sassy gay friend! More breakups! Exorbitantly wealthy Upper East Siders! Wisconsin! Paternity tests! And yes, I did say September 11th, because a tone-deaf plot device was absolutely necessary. Can’t wait for the COVID-19 themed sequel!
Easily my favorite terrible book of 2020. Two stars, one for the book itself, and another for the entertainment it provided when rehashing to my SO.
