Dream On, Ramona Riley by Ashley Herring Blake
1.0

Unfortunately, this did not work for me. I tried desperately to cling onto any bit of chemistry that showed itself but (in my opinion) there was none. It seemed as if the smut scenes were an attempt to show case what was lacking elsewhere but it pushed me further away from rooting for this couple.

I’m not a “miscommunication trope” hater whatsoever, especially if it’s done well. Done well = makes sense in regard to our character(s) and offers up an opportunity to later showcase their growth and how they overcome said miscommunication. This wasn’t done…at all.

There was a missed opportunity here with the discussion of Ramona and her absent mother. There was a lot of telling and not showing when it came to how it affects her personality/choices in her everyday life. I wish we went *deeper.*
I had the same issue for Dylan and her relationship with her parents.

The third act conflict made my eye twitch because from the very beginning, you can see where it’s leading and you can see all the painfully obvious ways it can be avoided. I’m aware that every romance book typically has a third act conflict, whether it’s a full blown break up or not, but this one just felt so…silly.

If they spent less time having sex and instead had one real conversation beyond surface level, perhaps I’d root for them. What do you MEAN you’re in love?! 😭
