Caught in the Axe
by Daphne Elliot
I’ve been so ready for the Hebert boys after meeting them in Daphne’s Lovewell Lumberjacks series. The Heberts are picking up the pieces of the family’s timber company left devastated by their father’s actions. In swoops Owen Hebert, lumbersnack stats daddy, to help with the financials and selling of the company. Some of y’all may have also had a sneak peek of Owen in the MomCom book, Mother Hater, by Daphne as well. 😉
Owen’s not so crazy to be back in Maine, preferring his job as CFO at DiLuca Construction in Boston. The situation gets dicier when his older brother Gus hires someone to help him dig through company files. That someone? Their younger brother’s ex-girlfriend, Lila. Throw in a little age gap, and Lila Webster is everything that Owen Hebert should not be lusting after.
I really enjoyed this story, and Owen is such an amazing book boyfriend. Lila has celiac, and the lengths that this man goes to make sure that she has food she can eat and enjoy is so swoon worthy. Not to mention all of the other little things the does for her. Their connection is magnetic from the very beginning, but when Owen recognizes her intellect and pushes and supports her career choices, I just melted. I do love a good mental connection on top of everything else, and they make my nerdy heart happy. 🥰
This book is fun, it’s swoony, it’s cozy, it’s steamy. And did I mention it has hot lumberjacks and a troublesome moose? I adore Lovewell, Maine, and I’m so happy Daphne has brought us back with this new series!
