Having found the first book in this series lacking characterisation and general engagement, I was hoping this one would be an improvement.
Unfortunately, many of the same flaws present in the first book are still mostly present in this one too, though to be fair the pace of this one seems to be quicker, and the events feel more exciting, but the characters still lack that spark of personality and the events still don't inspire any sense of suspense or tension.
I do have the third book and will be reading it next, but I doubt it will be significantly better than the previous books, which have been readable, but far from engaging as far as I am concerned.
