The House Next Door by Susan DiLallo, Tim Arnold, James Patterson, Max DiLallo
3.0
This book turned out to be a collection of three short stories. The connecting theme seemed to be that they were all set mostly inside a house.
What can I say about this book? I think it was a fast food - easy to read and didn't require a lot of thinking. This seemed to be quite common across all James' books I read lately. The stories felt more like BookShots candidates - not sure why they weren't published as BookShots, perhaps they weren't as selling as expected?
First story was a 2.5-star.
Very predictable, very cliche. I was quite surprised this was used as the main title of the book. The writing itself was quite entertaining, and I did enjoy it as a light reading.
Second story was a 3-star.
Also very predictable, but it had a bit more substance, and I could imagine newbie readers might not have guessed the plot so easily. I liked this better than the first one.
Third story was another 3-star.
I probably liked this the most out of the three, due to the number characters (and view points) and the family setting. I found the book wasn't long enough to be able to emotionally connect with a certain character though. This had the most potential to be a proper length book.
Overall, this was a 2.75-3-star experience for me. A tiny bit disappointed...
