The War of Two Queens by Jennifer L. Armentrout
4.5

This had a lot going on for me. For starters, and I'll be honest, the first half of this is boring. Being 3 books in, you kind of get used to JLA's writing, so you can tell when certain parts are written more so as a stepping stone for the plot, and the first half of this book felt that way to me.

Now, what I will say is that despite the first half being boring, the introduction of Casteel's POV really kept the first portion of the book afloat. Maybe it had to do with the fact that this was the first time we've ever been in his head to know his thoughts, but it was good not to continuously hear from Poppy

Along with the fact that Reaver definitely carried this book on his back! He was so funny and refreshing. He honestly was my favorite character in the book by a long shot.

One of the most disappointing aspects of this book by far was The Joining. This is something we have known about for the duration of at least 2 books and have been looking forward to in a sense. It always felt like it was a dangling carrot in our face, so imagine my surprise when we finally got it and it was lackluster. For one, you mean to tell me that with a 600+ page book, we get The Joining within the last 10% of the book. And to top it off, the way it was written was underwhelming, with Poppy saying she doesn't even know who's doing what to her. Now I don't read this for the smut, and I never have, but you'd think we'd get a little bit more of something that's been hyped up like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. It just felt like a cop out and her finally trying to meet the demand of the readers.

Overall, despite all of this, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I always have such a good time when I'm reading this series, and I can't wait to pick up the next installment.
