Information Doesn't Want to Be Free: Laws for the Internet Age by Cory Doctorow
informative
slow-paced
3.0
This book was fantastic! In thinking about what to write for this review, one of my main impressions was, "I think this would be a good book for every creative to read," only to see that the blurb on the cover of the book said the same thing. I don't know if I subconsciously saw that and was influenced, or if we came to the same conclusion unprompted, but either way, it's a true statement.
Being aware of how copyright can be used against creators is important, and Doctorow's perspective on consumerism, the internet, and innate human goodness strikes me as well wrought. He raises a lot of alarming stakes (some of which may be a bit overblown - my one main critique of the book), but also offers a lot of hope for how we might nonetheless find success as creatives while navigating an increasingly digitalized world.
