The vibe of the Obelisk Gate is different from book 1, I think mostly because there isn't as much travel involved. I have to admit I liked book 1 better for this reason, but book 2 is still phenomenal.
I'm not sure if this book has more technical explanations of orogeny and magic in it, or if it has the same amount but because we're staying in one place it feels like more. In any case sometimes it felt like reading a textbook, though a very interesting one. this is not a criticism, I very much enjoyed it.
Chapter 19 had me open mouthed and staring at a wall. I had hoped something like this[this being Essun being able to network with other orogenes] would happen, and it felt monumental when it did.
AND she was able to feel Nassun!!!
I'm starting book 3 immediately, and I feel like I'm in for a lot of pain but we must endure ðŸ˜
amazing series so far!
