I've never wished for an author to fail at making their characters feel real until I read this book. As soon as I got to know both of them, I knew this plot was going to absolutely devastate me. Seeing that Seth was such a genuinely good person who got caught up in a shitty scheme out of desperation to help his family was so, so heartbreaking. Combine that with Tristan finally finding what he's been looking for, and fully trusting Seth with his love and submission, and we have a guaranteed Certifiable Bad Time™️. I struggled to get through this book not because it was bad, but because it was too good, they were too real, and it was too upsetting knowing what was coming and being unable to stop it. I enjoyed these characters a lot, and the book itself was really great despite how upsetting the actual plot felt.
