The Summer of Broken Rules by K.L. Walther

emotional funny lighthearted fast-paced

3.5

“It's one of those special places where you feel like time doesn't exist. Where it will always be summer, where I'll always wake up with you.”

The Summer of Broken Rules is an emotional story set during a summer at Martha's Vineyard. Meredith just lost her sister recently and going back to their family's vacation home is bringing back a lot of old memories. Everyone is back together for her sister's big wedding and that brings back their tradition of playing Assassin! Meredith's sister loved this game and was always the winner, so now she's hoping to win in honor of her sister. I loved the representation of grief and how conflicting being in a place with so many memories can be. I really felt for Meredith's situation and was happy that she could reconnect with her family. The romance was cute, but ultimately this book didn't stand out to me. In the end, I got a bit tired of the Assassin game (never one of my favorite tropes) and the relationship back and forth.
