Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh

4.0

ouchieeee my heart !!! evelyn has such a way with words, my absolute favourite line in the book is ‘the fortnight at venice passed quickly and sweetly - perhaps too sweetly; i was drowning in honey, stingless’, in reference to the time charles and sebastian spent together. it perfectly captures the feeling of the falling in love with someone who you spent a brief but perfect time with, which can sometimes be so intoxicating that it leaves you in ruins once it ends abruptly
.
i loved how charles spends the rest of the book hanging onto any last memory of sebastian that he can - sometimes we can be so obsessed with someone that we find weird ways to stay connected to them. bravo evelyn
