This book is for everyone who watched Beauty and the Beast growing up and, like Belle, wished he had stayed the Beast at the end. Except in this version there are also mermaids.
Princess Nahlani of the Brine is sunshine incarnate, carefree and hell bent on breaking any and all rules set out for her by her sister, the Queen. She has a powerful magic in her Voice, able to charm any creature that hears her song. But her sister’s plan for her to be a pawn in a political marriage to another Siren kingdom is a fate worse than anything she can imagine.
The Frost King Aethan is as cold and unforgiving as his frozen, landlocked kingdom. He hasn’t been seen by the other Siren kingdoms in years and he hopes to keep it that way. His icy fortress harbors a devastating secret, and he will do whatever it takes to make sure that secret does not get out.
Their relationship starts out with mistrust and misunderstanding, but it’s the perfect blend of grumpy/sunshine, enemies to lovers, and instant chemistry that’s hot enough to melt the ice caps. You’ll adore the subtle nods to the Beauty and the Beast story you know and love, while falling for the underwater creatures, cuddly polar bears and unique world building of the Siren kingdoms.
And if you haven’t read Liesl’s first book, Of Song and Scepter, go do that right away. These fairytale retellings are interconnected standalones, but I promise you—you’ll love it just as much as this one.
Thank you Liesl for having me on your review team once again and for allowing me to read the book before it is published.
