I liked the first book, it was at least thrilling and had me wanting more. This book had none of that. There were many times I wanted to put it down and never pick it back up again, but kept hoping it’d get better. Yes, the author listed a trigger warning, but it wasn’t even about that. The first half of the book was very rough because of everything Adeline went through, but I was hoping for more when she was rescued. I feel like too much of the book was focused on the abuse Adeline went through, but not her getting her revenge. Claire ESPECIALLY deserved to be tortured more, or die a slower death, but it was very quick and happened at the very end of the book. Considering how in depth Zade went to torture his captives in the first book, I definitely thought Claire, Xavier, Francesca, and Rocco would’ve had it worse off. I was also expecting something to happen with the ghosts in Parson’s Manor, but that never came either. As messed up as it sounds, it just wasn’t very satisfying. I wish I would’ve just stopped after the first book.
