Luckiest Girl Alive
by Jessica Knoll
Ani has spent the last 15 years building herself up to become someone impressive — the job, the highlights, the massive ring on her finger, everything is going according to plan. Against her fiancé’s advice, she agreed to be a part of a documentary for her high school and now tendrils from her past threaten to topple the future she has so painstakingly built. Told in two time periods — the current day and when she was in high school, we see how Ani’s past continues to haunt her in the future. I got the sense that she was an unreliable narrator, and despite the cold exterior she portrays, it was hard to not feel for her as we learned about the trauma she faced growing up. The twists were SHARP, I thought I had things figured out and then the next page would bring another layer to the story. I would have liked to see some of the plots be explored a bit more, but the pace was pleasurable for a quick read.
