Lost on Me is an Italian coming of age story. It's a slippery work of auto fiction where the unreliable narrator makes it difficult to determine what is true, what is untrue, and what has been embellished and polished to make a better story. I think part of the book's purpose is to ask the reader if it really matters. What stood out in this novel was Vero's voice - wry, witty and self-deprecating - which I loved, and the larger than life characters, including her anxious and neurotic mother and her decidedly eccentric father. This made for a quick and entertaining read, albeit one that, as I discovered when I started to write this review, lacked any staying power for me.
