The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
5.0
The compassion and forgiveness that this author has towards her parents even after living through such a tumultuous childhood is both a sign of her resilience and strength. As much as I wanted to hate her parents for her, I could see through her writing, through her stories that their parents adored her.
I believe that you can both love and not do the best for your family. Throughout the book, I could see the love of two broken people who didn’t know how to be parents and rather chose to chase their demons. I could resonate with the author, even though I don’t nearly have the same experience.
I think what shattered me the most, is all the opportunities the family could have had to fix the roof, to get clothing, to have food and the parents selfishly squandered it away.
