The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

4.0

When I finished The Hobbit as a child, I wished that I could read Bilbo's memoir, "There and Back Again, A Hobbit's Holiday." In rereading this book that is exactly what I got the chance to do! In the 30 years in between my readings of this book, I've read the Lord of the Rings and my affection for Bilbo has grown. Introducing Bilbo, Gandalf and Co. to the kids has been a real joy. As I read it out loud I noticed that the book has aged. Sadly it will I fear turn like other classics (Mary Poppins, Treasure Island, etc.) into treasured books of the past that have no connection with children of the future.
