This isn’t the right book for me - I was fairly turned off by a lot of the more old fashioned tropes and attitudes toward women (
serious Madonna vs Whore dichotomy going on here, and how does everybody get pregnant immediately and also immediately know it?
) and some of the later revelations at the end of the book were just…gross. It is a good adventure story, and if you’re in the market for a literary mystery it definitely delivers. 
One last spoiler-y comment: this is just phantom of the opera but with books
