It took me a long time to realise why I didn’t like this book, since it has a really interesting plot and has all of the ingredients I would usually look for in a novel - it’s speculative, fantasy and has vivid descriptions - but I’ve finally come to the conclusion that not only do I like books for their story, I also need to have characters I care about. That’s what was missing in this book for me. It would be a really interesting one to analyse and dive deep into, but just reading it for fun I didn’t get much enjoyment out of it.
