Green Rider by Kristen Britain

First off all, I listened to Green Rider, and I am not sure if I had enjoyed it as much if I had read it. Not because the book is "worse" but because my brain won't "sound out" the dialogue nearly as well as the narrator nailed it. Characters that she managed to make quirky and fun would most likely have sounded annoying in my own brain speech.

Aside from that - this is almost a classic, being first published in 1998. I usually don't get on well with classics, as I usually find them a bit to slow and predictable. But Green Rider I really enjoyed! The main character is a young woman who unintentionally ends up right in the middle of a big adventure, and has to make due with whatever fate throws at her. She has to grow and stretch and adapt to what's happening over and over. I enjoyed spending time in the saddle with her, and making new friends of all sorts along the way!

Yes, there are quite some of the typical old school tropes. So if you'Re looking for something very unique and fresh, this might not be it, but if you however thirst for a bit of that welcome homely feeling of a classic, this is a great choice that holds up rather well even 2 decades later.

I liked how there's plenty of fighting and dying, but there's also a clear message about mercy sometimes being just as important. I'll happily pick up more by the same author!
