this was a fascinating read. i did not know most of the women featured here. reading it, it was quite sad to see how often these women's natural inclinations, talents or skills were stifled because of gender roles, expectations and glass ceilings. these women were then forced to (waste time) try their hand at more appropriate pursuits before they were finally able to pursue their dreams. and these were just women who had managed to break through the barriers and resistance in their way! i really wonder how much we would have gained if their gifts had been encouraged, nurtured and cultivated since they were kids.

the art is really cute and i appreciated that the translation told their stories in a way that highlighted their defiance, strong will and spirit.
