This book is an amazing exploration of societal expectations in Japan! As someone who’s been into Japanese culture for a while, I’ve always been into understanding Japan’s conformist culture which masquerades as community. This book emphasizes a point that I think especially rings true in this current political sphere. Individualism is a very aggressive killer. There is a stark difference between living for yourself and living by yourself.
