gosh Ray can truly write. This is a book for lovers of darkness and prose, not for realists. The way he writes Venice is so vivid, I felt like I was really there on those piers. 
You can’t think too much about things making sense though. Just go for the ride.
The characters are all so intriguing. Constance Rattigan is a legend.
