Inferno

I am not up on popular fiction, so I was pleasantly surprised by some of the plot twists, especially towards the end. It's not often that I feel a sense of connection (and appreciation for exponential growth) with the major villain, but I wonder why fiction criminals and psychopaths always develop these Batman and Robin type schemes that taunt the authorities? Why not commit your crime/caper and be done with it?
