Electric Idol by Katee Robert

4.0

Once again, I had so much fun with this book. Katee Robert is quickly becoming one of my favorites with just the 2 books I've read in this series from her. I was a little worried at first because the first few chapters still felt like I was reading from the perspective of Hades and Persephone, but as I kept going, Eros and Psyche really came into their own voices. I really enjoyed their dynamic and how they would play off of each other. This installment of the Dar Olympus series is nice in that it has the same atmosphere but it clearly differentiates itself from Neon Gods. It was nice to see Psyche so clearly different from Persephone and Eros different from Hades even though the couple share some similar dynamics (i.e. Persephone and Psyche not being what Hades and Eros expected of them, the sacrifices the couples made for each other, Persephone and Psyche hating the political structure of the Thirteen, Eros and Hades growing up with harsh backgrounds and feeling unworthy of their S.O.'s attention and love). The spice was also much more tame, but it made sense for who the characters were. I think what I liked the most about this round was that Psyche was a plus sized woman who was confident, but it wasn't a major plot point. The issues were always the impending doom of Aphrodite's wrath, never about Psyche being insecure that someone like Eros would even look twice at her. It didn't feel fetishized or like something she as an MC had to push through and learn that she was worth more than her size, she already knew that.

If you were to ask me why this wasn't a 5 based off of how I just raved about it, I couldn't give you a clear answer other than I liked Neon Gods more and that one even got a 4 as well from me. Either way, it was a solid addition to this world and I love that there is more of this world and these characters to explore.
