Fuddy Meers by David Lindsay-Abaire

5.0

before u read my review: I did not read this as a straight comedy. I read it sorta in the POV of Claire and how scary it would’ve been to wake up without knowing anything. I took the peoples traumas pretty seriously & was analyzing why their actions would b the way they are. The plays I have seen now do not portray this at all but rather making everything seem very surface level

Wow. I definitely think reading it all in one sitting is part of why I enjoyed this so much, but I’m just - writing this review right after finishing it. This it the first five star I’ve ever given. TBH it’s more like a 4.5 but I’ll round up.

I think David Lindsay-Abaire is pretty genius for this. Having worked for the dept of students with disabilities at my college for the last few years, I can tell he did a lot of research for the role of Millet & it was very nice to see the excerpt in the end about the effect of strokes. Tbh i just find it pretty genius (not 100% realistic but very entertaining and with enough information in the end which makes it all come together very nicely.) I just want to recommend this everyone so we can talk ab it lol.

I understand it’s a bit confusing but he does a really great job at feeding just enough information to make you feel comfortable in the direction that the story is going just before throwing you in a completely different one. 10/10 brain feeling. I didn’t really read it as a comedy but more as a drama with subtle commentary and real-life funny moments. It was good to reas the authors note at the beginning to understand that’s it’s not supposed to be fully taken as a comedy, bc if I read that expecting this I wouldn’t have got so much from it like I did.

Got recommendation from one of the Clockwork Reader’s old YouTube videos. Thx Hannah!
