Bloodsucking Fiends by Christopher Moore
Did not finish book. Stopped at 36%.
based on what I've seen people say about this, I thought it was going to be a silly vampire romance that would be a fun read for october but I wasn't even halfway through the book when I decided I wasn't going to finish it. I'm not the biggest fan of christopher moore's writing and i wish the dialogue between jody & tommy was more captivating considering this was labeled as a love story. sadly, I was overall very disappointed & even though it probably would've been entertaining enough to finish, I just couldn't get past the glaring issues it had. a lot of unneccessary racist remarks were sprinkled throughout this book & it felt like these were made with the intention of being funny (five wongs? really?) and that just didn't sit right with me. I understand that many authors write blatantly awful things in their books if it adds to the plot or serves a specific purpose for the characters, but there were red flags EVERYWHERE. I get that it unfortunately makes sense given that this book was written in the 90s by a straight white man, but I don't care !!!!! it bothers me !!!!! the only redeeming factors of this book are the emperor & the short chapters :(
