Return to Me by Lynn Austin
5.0

Oh man....where to start! I loved, loved, loved this book. First of all, I am a sucker for Biblical historical fiction. So this book was right up my alley. Plus it is so extremely well written how could I not love it. This is the story of Israel being sent back to rebuild the temple after being captive in Babylon. We get to follow Zecheriah as a little child and as he is called into being a prophet. Obviously, Lynn added a lot to the account but what I love about Bibical historical fiction is it helps you think about these people you read about in the Bible as real people with issues just like ours. Like imagine God calling you to be a prophet among those who you have grown up with. The very ones who have seen all your failures. Will they listen? I mean what kind of things must have been going through their heads.

This book also helped me realize how God has called us to be holy. I think has a western culture we have taken that for granted. We focus too much on our freedom in Christ and forget that we are also called to be different, separate from the world, just like the Israelites were. This book convicted me on more than one front. I love it when I can read a fiction book and not just enjoy a great story but also be encouraged in my walk with the Lord. That is what makes a Christian fiction book superb in my mind and Lynn Austin delivered.
