I Will Never See the World Again by Yasemin Çongar, Ahmet Altan

dark hopeful informative reflective sad fast-paced

5.0

A moving account of/by author Ahmet Altan about his imprisonment since 2016 in Turkey, his home country, where he was rounded up, tried, and sentenced to life in prison without parole. He was accused of giving "subliminal messages" in 2016 in support of the attempted coup.

"I am writing this in a prison cell.
But I am not in prison.
I am a writer.
I am neither where I am nor where I am not.
You can imprison me but you cannot keep me here.
Because, like all writers, I have magic. I can pass through your walls with ease."
